Being the truck driver that I am I find myself a little rough around the edges........I fucking love to swear! I trust people that are more openly rough around the edges over the ethically elite.......you know the ones who back stab, cut throats, lie cheat and steal.......I can cuss the wall paper off the wall and am damn proud to be a member of the unethical when it comes to who I am......so please each and everyone try and shout a go fuck yourself or something of that nature.......whether you swear or not....please just be yourself in all things........peace be with each and everyone today!

I was told as a child that "goddammit" is the worst word in existence, it would damn anyone who says it to hell, etc. thus, I love that word and use it fluently.

Brian, I like your censored phrases.  Going to try to remember them.

Swearing? Guilty as charged. I don't know how many times I've made my wife burst into laughter with one of my creative string of expletives. Camp out in my backyard while I'm working on a vehicle and I'm sure sooner rather than later you'll hear some choice words emanating from under the car (I really dislike automotive engineers and their propensity for placing bolts in the hardest to reach places for no good reason).

Having three grandchildren living in the house however,  has taught me how me how to censor myself like a bad movie over-dubber. I now say stuff like "Gun of a witch" or "holy shitowski".

I still keep the kids away when working on vehicles though....

Kent, I'll take truly ethical over superficially polished -- an honest person with rough edges over a silver-tongued liar and thief -- any day!

In my own language, I hardly ever swear, so my cusswords likely have extra impact for being a bolt out of the blue. :-)  (Though you should hear me alone in the car, sometimes, if someone in front of me does a stupid driver trick!)

A related note: I'm also trying to be aware of the unstated assumptions carried by some language, and not use it if I reject the implications -- for example, calling a woman a "babe" or "chick" depicts her as helpless and juvenile, and denies her adulthood. Guys who use those terms probably don't mean to imply that, but I'd rather find better terms, and contribute to a verbal landscape that affirms women as well as men as fully people. (Just as we don't say "that's so gay" as a general putdown.)

I never swore at all for about the first 40 years of my life, but occasionally worked with people that did, so the words were all tucked-away in my brain, and when life became too stressful, they came pouring out.  I felt guilty about it because I was still a practicing mormon.

Since becoming an atheist, I have less stress, so I swear less, but when I do swear, I don't feel guilty anymore.

However, one swear word/name I still don't use is Jesus &/or Christ.  I guess it's still a no-no in my brain.  Probably because it was a huge SIN in the mormon religion.  But, if I were to use it, I certainly would have no fear of damnation because I'm sure there's no god to get upset with me.

Working construction at a tank farm, pipe fitting and other manual stuff, a welder asked me a few days after we've been working together.  He had seen be bang my head, pinch my fingers and other things. He sheepishly asks "Are you a christian?"  I broke out laughing and asked him why do you say that? He replied "You don't swear." We had a great laugh and he became more himself after that.

I don't swear much but I enjoy hearing other people swear.  I don't know why that is.

I swear a lot and I once trained for the ministry. Sometimes I get called down for my swearing, but I know mostly when to say words and when not to. Gotta know that coz I work for theists. Most of the time (and privately) I swear like a sailor.

I've read that Hillary is like that too. Hell, I'll vote for her. Anyone that swears a lot is OK in my book.
