New Scientist resurrecting the God Gene?

According to a recent cover story of New Scientist, the way the human brain is wired makes us religious or very prone to imagine higher powers. And when we look at history, the birth of animistic faiths like Voodoo, Shinto and early European ancestor and spirit worship, there seems to be something to it. When we're trying to make sense of something we don't understand, we like to use magical explanations.

If the writer of the article tried to explore history and the evolution of intelligence and memetics, it might've been a very interesting article. But instead, he chose to focus on questionable experiments asking children and adults vague questions with no regard to how they might have been influenced by organized religions from birth.
