Poor George Orwell, the inventor of "Newspeak" as an element of civilization in 1984, heralding the arrival of "Big Brother," which the Republicans identify with D.C. government while the Dems view as a Romney-type front man for the 1% with all the wealth and the lowest taxes. Had he REALLY been a seer, Orwell would know that "Newspeak" would eventually become neo-Goebbelsian Big Lies told so many times we buy them just as we do, say, Progressive Insurance, we're so enamored of the TV commercials. (Actually, my own thesis, that Big Brother IS TV, seems more apt somehow.) Romney, however, is a goldmine for punditry based upon the assumption that while broken clocks are correct twice a day, the GOP candidate, infected with Ann Richards disease (shoe in mouth disease) will provide a gaffe a day at least. He should take more lessons with Frank Luntz, the master of GOP word manipulation, and with Karl Rove, the master of horse manure, and learn the lesson of Ross Perot. Asked about Afghanistan and your failure to mention it in your acceptance speech, you commit political suicide by saying you were sticking to topics that were "important," as: just as "pro-life" implies the other guys are pro-death, not including our fighting troops in the Mideast as a topic of importance, you classify their blood as UNimportant. What a pitiful fool.

Comment by Jim Schultz on September 11, 2012 at 1:55pm Democrat Convention Observations - The President did not mention the Affordable Care Act in his convention speech. What should we infer from THAT ? The whole convention was about birth control and abortion, with Sandra Fluke getting a prime time slot. No speeches on Climate Change ? I thought Global Warming was going to end life as we know it ? Where was Al Gore anyway ? Then the God and Jersualem debacle. The whole thing was way too politically transparent (if there is such a thing at a political convention).
Comment by James M. Martin on September 9, 2012 at 8:45am Thanks guys. Now, Romney has said that Obama is going to take "In God We Trust" off all U.S. currency. Can you believe it, they are falling back on the fear tactic.
Comment by Pat on September 8, 2012 at 3:16pm "Big Brother IS TV" How undeniably true. I've often heard it said that you don't watch TV - TV watches you. How else does Nielsen know how to rate popular vs. unpopular shows, which advertising is more valuable, and the demographics of a particular show in a particular time slot.
And, with all that information, those who pander, sell fear, hatred, and ignorance, know exactly when, where, to whom, and how, to inject their bile.
Big Brother IS Watching!
