I just finished up my "Mormonism: The Big Con (pt: 1)" post on "Grumbles From an Old Grouch" grumblesfromanoldgrouch.com

This 1st post covers Joseph Smith from birth to finishing the "translation" of the Book of Mormon.

Check it out and you'll find out a lot of things they forgot to tell me back in my 4 years of Mormon church seminary.

Things like Joe getting busted for fraud before he even started "translating" the BoM. (Btw, he "translated" it by staring into his hat.) And you'll meet some of the marvelous "holy" ghosts he encounters along the way..

While you're there, Check out "The Religious Wrong" (pts: 1 & 2) The series covers the history of religious bigots and kooks in America.

Pt. 1 covers the 17th century American religious scene from Pilgrims to witches;  and pt 2 covers the "Bagger" myth about the U.S. being a divinely inspired "Christian nation".

Part 3 is almost finished. (It should be done this weekend.) It'll explore the "2nd Great Awakening", the Utopian societies, the birth of the "Bagger Churches" and some of the biggest con jobs in American history.

The South Park vid was pretty accurate. However, the beginning and ending texts are a bit off. Particularly the beginning one. I'll get into that mess in episode 2, which I will continue working on as soon as I finish up "The Religious Wrong (pt 3)" post. (Hopefully today.)

In the meantime, check out this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0a3eJC3qAFU

South Park has also done a great documentary on Mormonism.

Glad you liked it Michael. I also have a FB page: "Grouchy's Grumbles", where I post interesting (I hope) cartoons, factoids and related tidbits as well as my latest excuses as to why I'm slow getting my posts written. Check it out and if you like it, "like it".

Dave, I read your grumbles from an old grouch. Have it bookmarked now, and it's a pretty good site.

Thanks Ted, Dennis & Ruth. I'm glad you enjoyed the post. Episode 3 of the "Religious Wrong" series should be finished hopefully today. Then it's back to the Mormon series. Also, in one final shameless plug, check out my "Theory of Evil-ution vs the Myth-ology of Creationism".

Thanks Dave.  A book that I found informative on Mormonism was Under the Banner of Heaven: A Story of Violent Faith by Jon Krakauer.  The book isn't primarily a critique of Mormonism, but chronicles 3 murders that occurred within one of the fundamentalist sects.  Along the way though, it provides a concise history of Mormonism that taught me a lot.

Pluto's a mite bit chilly, this time of the year. Besides, according to the church, I'm going to Venus (or someplace like it). I hear it's warm there all year round.  ;-))

But Dave, if you are a Mormon you and your entire family can go and live on Pluto when you die!

Seriously, I'm going to check out that website.
