The World’s Largest Coalition of Nontheists and Nontheist Communities!

A new organisation of lunatic bigots gets under way today, after its leading light said gay people should “change and repent”.

This is arch homophobe Michael Nazir-Ali, Bishop of Rochester, UK.

Change into what? A nice skimpy low-cut number with sequins? And repent for what? For not keeping you out of the country when you immigrated here from Pakistan?

Nazir-Ali spoke as tens of thousands of people, including Sarah Brown, the Prime Minister’s wife, joined the annual Gay Pride march in London.

A new coalition of evangelical and Anglo-Catholic bigots today begins the Devil’s work of hating poofs. Sorry, they love the sinner, don’t they, and hate the sin? I was forgetting. Since within this context the result is the same, it hardly matters.

This is what this disturbed individual tells the Sunday Telegraph in the story linked to above:

“We want to uphold the traditional teaching of the Bible. We believe that God has revealed his purpose about how we are made. People who depart from this don’t share the same faith. They are acting in a way that is not normative according to what God has revealed in the Bible.”

God revealed nothing, pal. It was made up. By men.

“The Bible’s teaching shows that marriage is between a man and a woman. That is the way to express our sexual nature.

“We welcome homosexuals, we don’t want to exclude people, but we want them to repent and be changed.”

I'm a bit more outspoken on my regular blog. I don’t know just how personally insulting towards this man I can be on this forum without getting fingers wagged at me. But what a thoroughly nasty man he is that he can use his superstition to damn gay people, to tell them they must live an unfulfilled and painful life just because his desiccated old scriptures seem to be telling him they should.

What was his god playing at, then, that he created millions of gay people? The man's a prat.

Seems I can let go a little, then, Carver. While getting on a bit, I'm a newbie hereabouts. I just had images of fine upright humanists saying, "We don't do that kind of thing" every time I wanted to call somebody a twat. I like to be constructive in my criticism, but that can still involve calling someone a twat. You just call them a twat after you've been constructive. Oh, you can do it before, too, if you're of a mind. Thanks for your comment.

Well, how about calling him a piece of dogshit stuck on the botton of cheap tennis shoes? If you only called him that I would think you were holding back.

Thanks, Joey. Yes, if there's one thing that unites these diverse religions of the Book, it's hatred of us poofters. If you wanted to unite these "faiths" and stop them from warring, just tell them that a hegemony of homosexuals is about to set up a world government. Better, though, not to try that. While they're warring and bickering, they remain incredible, since only one of them could possibly be right (not that any of them are)

I'm sure you could get pretty insulting. It'd be hard for anyone to describe your indignation as anything other than, for lack of a better word, righteous.

“We welcome homosexuals, we don’t want to exclude people, but we want them to repent and be changed.” Phrases like that worry the hell out of me. Anyone that can utter a phrase like that without any idea of the irony of it would very likely be burning people at the fucking stake, given half a chance.

It seems like hatred of gays has become one of the issues driving more and more people away from religion. As more and more liberal people leave and the conservatives stay, the religion becomes less relevant, less tolerant, and far angrier at the outside world.
Ah, for the future, when idiots like this man will be the "leader" of a stupid little cult of about fifteen people.
