Hey folks. Nothing major from this end, but I am working with a student on more writing and research on atheism and atheists -and the public perceptions of same, and I will start posting again some of our musings.
Updates? My course on the sociology of atheism did not get enough students enrolled last summer, so I had to shelve it. I was the moderator on a panel on the media treatment of atheism held on our campus earlier this month, and the headline panelist was none other than our NC city counsel person from Asheville Mr. Cecil Bothwell. Good times. I also spoke at a local retirement village on atheism and made some nice contacts. Spoke at College Chapel (yes, Elon has one each week, though poorly attended) a couple weeks ago as the faculty atheist and feel like I was both listened to and heard. Also met informally withy a group of students who wanted to talk to a real, live atheist. Also talking to school chaplain about our new multi-faith center on campus and where non-believers fit into the scheme of things.
More later. Good to be back.
