Well got kicked off Facebook again....

They must have something against atheists.

And this time, I had well over a thousand followers...

That alone should tell you something.

But honestly, maybe it is a good thing.

Seems there are those on FB who just like to hunt atheists....

But if you fight back, YOU ARE THE BAD PESON!

Now, these people don't have to come to my page..but they do.

So I think it is time I just walk away from FB.....

I'm tired of people just going off on things and making mountains out of mole hills.

I have better things to do then get all balled up about some free cheesy online site.

And what I love is how FB says you can only have ONE page....

Really?

Come on....

If that were the case, something tells me that FB would be a fraction of its size.

And maybe, just maybe that might be a good thing.

Cause if it would happen that way then the actual SIZE of FB would be much smaller...

and then FB would have to reduce it advertising rates.....

Don't see that happening....

Wow! Even I'm curios what you did there.Even I have a couple of pages there and one of them is debate between theists and atheists. But most of the content is atheistic because theists in general don't get into debates.I think you should report this to Mark Zukerberg!

BTW, just as a point of reference, your friend and mine, Seth Andrews, a.k.a. The Thinking Atheist, has a presence on Facebook.  Now, I don't know if they don't kick him out because he has a considerable following or not, but he's there ... and somehow, I doubt mightily that he's the only serious, self-promoting atheist on FB!

I'd be curious to know what got you booted as well.  Though I'm not on FB, my understanding is that there is at least SOMETHING of an atheist presence there.  If Zuckerberg & Co want to be intolerant of the fastest growing demographic in the US, then someone is shooting themselves in the foot big-time.

So ... any idea what set 'em off?

Agree with all of you!

I like it here, and feel comfortable and safe with the great people here.

Creating community is a form of activism too.

Still there is a need for people like Rick, to be out there making the case for the cause!

I forgot to ask the $64,000 question:  what were you posting that prompted your backlash and dismissal?  It must have been really good.

I agree with everything you wrote Rick. It is time to talk to my family and friends who are not atheists on some other site. Can you offer a suggestion of one that is more user friendly?

Social networking is really not about about completion but more about being a fad.  Remember when AOL chat rooms were all the rage?  Then it was MySpace.  It's currently Facebook.  This, too, shall pass.  Currently it seems people leaving Facebook because they are disgusted or fed up with privacy issues and with all the friends and family squabbles it has created.  Something else that's new, shiny and sparkly with come along and take its place.  I don't know what it is, yet.

The problem at this point is that Facebook is the 800-pound gorilla in the room.  They dominate social media, and anybody who is anybody has a presence on Facebook.  Problem is, that tends to imply that I am not anybody, because I am not on FB and I plainly and simply WILL NOT create a presence for myself on Facebook, and for multiple reasons.

I AM on Atheist Nexus because, frankly, I like the company.  A|N is a place where I can kick back and enjoy myself for the large portion and not have to worry about trolls, ad hominem or all the other crap I've seen too much of on other venues.  Are we perfect?  SUUUUUUUUUUURE we are ... and if you believe THAT one, I got a swell theme park in Orlando to sell you, even though it's a Mickey Mouse operation!

A|N may not have all the bells and whistles that FB has, but it has enough for me.

Sorry to see that happened.  I would like to see competition in the field of social networking - I don't know how facebook wound up being the monopoly power with tiny followings in other networks.  Maybe with the tides of faddish users, a competing network can overcome facebook.
