Just when we thought Glenn Beck couldn't get crazier ...

Beck goes and makes a comparison between what appears to me to be an ill-cast Satan character in the History Channel series, "The Bible" and Barack Obama. Here's a side-by-side:

From Beck's perspective, this was just another opportunity — he doesn't really pass up any — to take a jab at Obama and vilify the president by any means necessary. In fact, this is a good summation of the general program of conservative right wing radio in general.

As for the Satan character, I always pictured Satan, were he to take human form, as a young and attractive alpha male kind of figure. Does the History Channel really want to go on record as casting the most evil being of all time as an old black man? The History Channel? Oh well. Looks like that die has been cast.

Sentient Biped: Yeah, that's one points I made in the post. Satan as an old black guy doesn't seem right at all.

I guess "history" channel will now get much more of the christian market.  How nice for them.

Michael R: There isn't any mainstream media in the USA anymore.  The major daily newspapers, TV, and radio news are all owned by enormous corporations, and they publish only what they're told to. They pretend that news outlets like FAUX News and MSNBC (for instance) are in opposition to each other, but they'really just two sides of the same coin.

I prefer Slate and Truthout, and a few other online news sites

http://www.slate.com/

PS: I have been fed up with the History Channel for quite a few years now; ever since they ran a "docudrama" that was supposed to explain what really happened when ghod, via Moses, cursed Egypt with a lot of plagues so that Pharoah would "let his people go." The truth of the matter is that NONE of that ever happened.  The Hebrews were never enslaved by the Egyptians, the "plagues" never happened, and there was no mass exodus.  Ever.  I wanted to put my foot through the screen, but I was in a friend's house, cat-sitting.  Didn't want to ruin her TV.

I'm confused about the depiction of Satan as an Obama-esque character.  Also, I thought Satan was Lucifer, the morning star, but also the snake.   Not a Moroccan actor in dark clothing.

Who knows what went on in the mind of the casting director?  Maybe even he/she doesn't know.

Thinking about it, I'm sure satan is a shape shifter, and would be far more likely to appear in a for that seduces rather than frightens.

The History Channel gave up having anything to do with history two years ago. Now, it is "reality" shows about junk collectors and silliness about "ancient aliens." Their multipart dramatization of the Bible is little better than the 1950s one, dull where it is not inaccurate.

Watching the USA from afar, the reason Beck gets an audience for his dramatic musings is your mainstream media is failing to deal with your big issues. The USA is headed for default on its loans, it continues to spend beyond its means, and yet Obama and the lamestream media keep acting as if there is no problem. That vacuum allows Beck to enter with ideas about Obama deliberately setting the USA up to fail, etc. The bottom line is: Beck is right about your country dying economically - it is - and until the mainstream media wakes up and tackles the topic Beck will feel justified in using every trick in the book against a president he rightly believes is (at best) guilty of gross negligence. Context is everything.
