Or is he??

Can someone tell me if he was a real man or not?! Like, point me to a body. And don't be a wise ass, I am a heathen with no morals! I will cut you!

Speaking as one who for quite some time doubted the historical existence of Jesus, I have to admit that there's just enough evidence pointing to a Galilean Jew named Jesus who, in death, formed the basis for the Christian religion. Just one man's opinion, though.

However . . .

He was nothing like what the Christian faith has handed down to posterity.

There is also one note of fact that isn't too well known. There existed a 1st-century Jewish historian—a fellow Galilean—named Justus of Tiberias who wrote, among other historical documents, a history of the Jews from the time of Moses to the death of (Herod) Agrippa II (in AD 100). He was a bitter rival of the more celebrated Jewish Historian, Flavius Josephus.

Unfortunately, his Jewish history, titled the “Chronicle” failed to survive the ravages of time. However, the famed 9th-century Christian Patriarch, Photius of Constantinople had access to it and was mortified to learn that Justus, failed to mention Jesus completely: “He [Justus] does not even mention the coming of the Christ, the events of his life, or the miracles performed by Him.” (Bibliotheca, codice no. xxiii)

Rather odd of Justus to completely ignore a guy who's crucifixion is claimed to have triggered the events reported in Matthew 27:52-53! Don't you think?

It's a close call because of the fact that the Jesus of Christian history and faith could not even be remotely like any real, historical Jesus of Nazareth. Some people need to get real.

Lorien, you've given me much to think about here, lol. I don't know if anyone had nice trimmed lawns back in the desert 2,000 yrs. ago and pools were probably out of the question too in that day. We can therefore safely peg his income as being derived from: carpentry, brick laying, hunting, fishing or maybe he was a leach on society that sauntered from town to town in hopes of someone thinking he would appear important enough that he'd be fed by strangers. I believe it usually worked too.

Did he do swimming pools and lawn care? Or just carpentry?

I suppose if I close my eyes and open my heart, he will appear. Sigh, but thanks Kristin! I'm just tired of hearing some people say, he never existed and others saying he did but he was just a man.

I've heard that most of the evidence that Jesus even existed was circumstantial, that outside of the bible he wasn't mentioned. So even if he did exist, we don't know much about him besides what the gospels say.
