Everyone has their own idea of what a utopian society is. This is why I'm a believer in micro-societies. That way we have a choice of what kind of society we want to be apart of. When people force their ideas on everyone else it just leads to general unhappiness. Happiness is what life is all about. We all have a right to it. This is why we need to reduce the size of national government and minimize its powers. Leave the power to the states so that we have a choice of what kind of society we want to live in. You can't force religion on people and you can't force atheism on people. We should always be allowed freedom of choice. The more I watch California self destruct, the better Texas is beginning to look.

Though, individual 'utopia's' like that most famous idea of Plato's could have once been maintained.

I was agreeing with you. What I described was certainly no utopia. :D I'm not a utopia sort of guy. I'm more into, you know, reality and the thing that enrages me about theism is the denial of reality (which is, of course, what theism exists to do). Nor did I say anything about outlawing religion, though I can see how the word abolish could give that idea.

Sonny Mobley: I agree religion is bad and the world would be better with out it but we can't get rid of it and if we actually tried (i.e. outlawing it) it would not only fail (religion would just go underground and become more extreme), it would cause allot more harm than good.
That is not to say we are stuck with religion though. I do think that religion is dieing. It can't keep up with modern science and even most fundies are more liberal than many religions people of the past (hard to believe but not all fundies are crazy enough to make it onto Fundies Say the Darndest Things). While it will not be in any of our lifetimes religion as we know it will die. But there will not be any utopia.

Hey, the rest of those are up to debate, but the world will definitely be a better place without religion. If anything people can start being honest with themselves! Hate those different from you? Instead of justifying with religious creed just come on out and be a bigot to everyones face! Two countries having a border dispute that would normally be justified as an age's old religious dispute? Just come on out and say 'my people are more important than yours and thus deserve more land and we will kill you for it'!
