It is official, I'm going to hide like a coward

I hate it, but from the way things are in the world right now, I am officially removing my name from this account.  People are being fired for all sorts of nonsense reasons, and I think it is time I got OUT of the game.

My account will still be here, my image will not change, but the name will be removed.  For those of you who know my name, please do not use it in response to me here.  The fewer Google an Yahoo hits the better.

I will still be an open atheist, but my online comments would be far too easy to take out of context and hold against me.  It is a sad state of affairs where the First Amendment no longer holds sway in our private lives, but what can I say?  Big Brother is watching.

Off topic, but you aren't the first woman I've met online who has problems with and ex cyber-stalking.  What the hell is wrong with these guys?  Argh.  Anyways...

I don't use my picture because, honestly, it isn't that good of a picture =P  But I do have pics of myself posted.  If they manage to hunt me down and ID me with a pseudonym, they'll have to have went out of the way, and that would  look good for me if trouble arises.  Mostly, I want to stop lazy Google searches.

I know exactly what you mean.  My ex husband cyber stalks me, both he and his wife I'm sure have paper copies of every post I make on these boards.  They have even tried to use them in court to get custody of my 13 year old son.  I don't put my last name on here for the same reasons as your removing yours, potential negative impact on your job, but I DO keep my picture posted, because I'll be damned if I let that tyrant effect my right to speak my mind.  It's just NOT going to happen.  And Oh, btw, the Judge in my custody case, WOULD NOT ALLOW my religious views in his court, and even scolded the ex's atty for bringing it up.  So do I understand, YES, and probably in one of the more perverse ways possible.  Crazy ex stalking me online....reading all my posts.....hopefully he'll learn something.  Not gonna hold my breath.  No need to apologize.  We just need to keep making ourselves known where it counts.  The ballot box.

Well said Tom.  I think I will be more useful speaking out on the internet under a pseudonym and just being an out atheist teacher.  Some quote-mining and I'm sure they could make me look hateful, although I've stated several times my commitment to secularism so that my views of religion will not enter my classroom.  It would be against my beliefs to push my beliefs...

Heard while politically more active than I now am:

"In this land of the free and home of the brave, if you want to be free you have to be brave."

Being brave in a public way is easier when it doesn't increase the risk to your income.

Go undercover if you need to, but please don't quit.

Yeah, I still use my real name on Facebook, but I have turned off the search options so you can not Google my name and find my Facebook.  If you did find it by chance, it would show you nothing because I have it locked out with privacy setttings.

That being said, I have thought about changing the name on there too.

Yeah, sad to say that is the situation here in America.  We understand, many of us here also do not use our full names or prefer to use a handle.  Take care!
