for starters, it would have to be on cable, i.e. HBO, Showtime, Starz, etc. simple premise:
Atheist person living in a relatively urban/suburban setting, preferably in the deep South. i'm thinking Atlanta. he/she should be relatively young, perhaps late 20's or early 30's. the show depicts the exploits of the protagonist, who is a normal, not combative, Atheist and his/her constant interactions with Theists. many interactions may be visual and vocal, while others can be audible thoughts. ideally, this should be a comedy, satirising the Religious, while ultimately demonstrating the frustrations of an Atheist living in a religious world.
end pitch.
i'm no writer, and my ideas aren't exactly flushed out, but i would love some people to piggyback this (and i can take all the credit!) and add some new thoughts. there are countless situations that would be hilarious, from scenes with coworkers to visits to church's for funerals, weddings, etc. not only would this be an entertaining show, it would be informative and provacative. plus, i don't think an Atheist has ever really been portrayed on TV, at least not where it's a central part of their character (Dexter's Atheism is barely a backstory).
so, what do you think?

Comment by booklover on January 19, 2012 at 3:29pm Good idea! I'd watch! On "Mike & Molly" the other night, Mollys sister was doing the make-up on a dead man for his funeral. She was saying something about what she might be in her next life, and then she said something about or if this life is it, than get all you can out of life. Very low-key, but I love when characters on shows actually GASP! Hint that there actually might not be a 'god' and it might not be a christian one if there is one. Probably goes right over the heads of religious zealots though.
Comment by Idaho Spud on January 19, 2012 at 12:43pm I like your idea. I think lots of comedy is definitely the way to go.
I love The Big Bang Theory, but wish they would make fun of religion more. They hardly ever do, and the main character lets his Mom get away with murder, in jamming her religion down everyone's throats without rebuttal. Worse yet, the other characters do also.
