I would rather like to make more atheist friends because it's nice to know you are on the same page, but, I really don't want to spend too much time talking about being one. I figured out all the reasons I did not believe about 14 years ago, not sure I like constantly rehashing it. I've found that to be the trouble with other atheist groups I've been in. After we get done talking about creationism in schools, or the crazy religious right, we seem to have little else to talk about and it gets a little boring after a while.

What do you want to talk about? I'm making bread today. What are you up to?

Got the same problems. This is the second site I have joined. I dont come to either much anymore. Nobody seems to have a sense of humor and they all wanna talk about the same thing over and over. People seem to get caught up on being atheist as much as religious people are caught up on god. I like to discuss fishing, martial arts, auto repair, etc. The only topics seem to be moral in nature or religious/anti-religious. There doesn't seem to be much fellowship.

Your recognition of that is a good step toward wisdom. This is the trouble with collectivism, be it mystical (religious), OR secular. After the initial cause has been dealt with, all that's left is patting themselves on the back. It's what became of religion, but also what became of the pervading ideologies in the Western world today. Leftists and Rightists and socialists and capitalists, blah blah blah. They don't listen to eachother, don't recognize that differing social models don't make them mortal enemies. Infallible, unrestrained, and spiteful. And that all starts when groups of people don't really have anything to talk about.

And so you suggest the perfect question: If there's nothing much to talk about, why stay together?
