Holy Shit! It Was the Sunday School Teacher!

I blogged last week about a little girl who disappeared and was found murdered 10 days later.
How I felt bad because I couldn't pray in the first place, and that I knew was going to turn out horribly anyway.
Who on earth could have known that it was a Sunday school teacher; the mother of a five-year-old little girl? All those people praying, what do they think of a god who would let one of his own agents commit such a heinous act? Aside from being sick on top of confounded, I don't know how to feel about this.
Maybe it's another nail in the coffin of religion, but I can't bring myself to feel as if any kind of progress has been made for the sake of atheism if little girls have to die in order to prove something.

We were watching the news the other day and when I saw that woman saying how surprised she was blah blah I rolled my eyes. They're always so surprised when it's a religious person, particularly when it's someone who works in the church. I'm sick to death of this notion that religion automatically makes you a good person.

I'm completely antireligious, but I'm not ready to jump on religion as the cause of this tragedy. If the suspect did it (which I'll grant that they wouldn't have arrested her if there was no evidence but she's not yet proven guilty), and if it was a murder and not an accident that she was somehow covering up, then there is still mental illness to deal with.

I don't want to scapegoat religion, any more than I want to be scapegoated. I'll wait until the evidence is in.

I agree that religion is evil, I'm just not ready to pass judgement here. My 2 cents.

The fundies will just say "the devil did blah blah blah" or something else to take responsibility off of the human and place it on some supernatural force.
