Just a small thing that has troubled me for some time - it may seen like a joke, but I'm genuinely curious.
In the catholic faith (the only one I know), god is always referred to as a man (He, the Father, et cetera...) and the only woman prayed to is Mary (not a godess, but as the mother of Jesus, son of god). This always appeared to me to be a way to make women into second class members of the church (that and a whole lot of other things in the catholic church).
So, after a bit of thought (only a tiny bit formulated on public transport this morning on the way to work), here is a proposal about the sex/gender of god:
Genesis 1:27 says "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them."
So all humans are made in the same image (I am taking this literally not figuratively) as god. References to god tend to be masculine, so god is biologically male.
Genesis 1:1-2:3 God creates the world.
But how could a biologically male god create anything? Only women's bodies can hold, nourish and give birth to life.
So God is actually biologically female? In that case, why does she like to be refered to as a man? Is the godess actually a pre-op trans man?
Comments and questions on this hastily formulated thought are very welcome.
