Unlike the character I covered in the last instalment of this series,Homer's Thersites, Lucian was a real person who starred in his own satirical works, written in Greek for an upper-class Roman audience back in the second-century common era.
He didn't put up with any bullshit. As we shall see, Lucian was a kind of ancient Harry Houdini or James Randi who was able to express himself with the deep intellect and wit of a Voltaire or Mark Twain. He was really into this whole straight thinking truthfulness thing way before it was cool and he was known to exposewoo-woo with searing satirical exposés.
