On July 11, 1955, a new law passed by the 84th Congress of the United Sates called “Public Law 84-140” which--through the influence of a renowned “Communist-Hunter” and notable “alcoholic” Senator Joseph McCarthy” - a man who’d died of “Cirrhosis” of the liver in 1957 - came a proposal that was readily-approved; and which had later been ratified on July 30, 1956--through a Joint Summer Session Resolution of the 84th Congress’s approval by President Dwight D. Eisenhower; there-by, declaring “IN GOD WE TRUST” to become “the National Motto of the United States of America”. It was thereafter and is still, the only Nation to promote a Jewish-based Christian version of the Super-natural as a New “Official Motto” placed on its money, it being “IN GOD WE TRUST” entitlement that first appeared on the “Obverse Side of One-Dollar Silver Certificates”. As the “... first paper currency in the world...” bearing a religious “Slogan turned Motto” - it first entered into circulation on October 1, 1957!
At that time--part of a comprehensive modernization program by the “Bureau of Engraving and Printing” [BEP], it gradually included this Newly-Mandated United States Motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” to be placed above the large “ONE” of the Reverse design. While the former Series of “One-dollar Silver Certificates” dated, 1935, 1935-A, 1935-B, 1935-C, 1935-D, 1935-E, 1935-F did [not] have the “In God We Trust” attribute - this because the Official U.S. “Motto” was then “E Pluribus Unum” - a Latin phase meaning, “From Many Came One”! While the minting of the 1957, 1957-A and 1957-B Series fully included “IN GOD WE TRUST” on the “Obverse”, one needs note that such had also been added to the back design of the 1935-G Series of One Dollar Bills; however, the early printings of this Series “did not” bear the New Motto. Albeit it does appear on [all] H Series One-Dollar Silver Certificates--all dated 1935--the latter G’s and H’s printed in 1956-61! It also needs noting that by September of 1961, “IN GOD WE TRUST” was added to the back design of [all] U. S. Bank Notes! Below is a listing by denomination of the “first production and deli-very dates for currency bearing “IN GOD WE TRUST!
