I am not an avid user of Facebook, but I do use it occasionally for events.  After people found out I had finally joined the Facebook hive I started getting friend invites from a whole lot of people.  At first I accepted them all with open arms thinking I'm was the coolest guy on the internet.  But then reality kicked in and I found out that I don't really give a fuck if someone is going to go work out today, or if someone just painted their toenails.  But then there is the worst of it all!!!  The crazy religious people that feel they must share scripture every 10 minutes, or the assholes that thanks Jesus because their baby just took a shit, or because their car finally started on a cold morning.

So for awhile I was hiding only those posts from people because I thought it was annoying, but more and more they came.  Pretty soon there were too many to hide and my Facebook had become flooded with the faithful's nuttbaggery.  And then the friend deletions started.  I originally had a few hundred friends. A lot of them were old Army buddies that I hadn't seen in awhile.  It was fun at first, but then realized after the initial conversations, I never talked to them again.  Now I have somewhere around 40 friends, and that list will probably be going down even more as I have just found out one of my good friends just became a born again Christian, and he like to share his thought on the subject ALL THE TIME.  Since his "coming out" I have maybe had 1 conversation with him, and it ended up going the religious route so now I avoid him.  He has become almost cult like and it's scary.

Ah fuck it, I'm probably just going to delete Facebook.  Online social networking is crap anyway (says the guy writing a blog post on an online social network site).

I just deleted my Face Book account last week. I don't even use it so why keep it? I don't even know why I had it in the first place! LOL :)

I use it for the games and for posting silly statuses, and for post the pro-science/anti-religious screed I'm now known for.

I'm not addicted. I can give it up any time I want.  No, I can...what?

I just hide people from my feed who post ridiculous or offensive things. I only have about a dozen people whose posts I actually see, but it works ok for me.

For the most part I only use Facebook to post the news in regards to politics, science, and religion.  Other then that I occasionally joke with people I know online.  However as time goes by I feel like I only talk to a handful of people on my friend's list.  And that is even after I've cropped out everyone I knew in high school.  Never really had your problem.  I've been an outspoken atheist since I joined Facebook so must of the bible thumpers avoid me.  I probably only have only one or two that have preached on their own wall which bleeds into my feed.  In the end I just block all their updates, but I'm wondering why I don't just delete them and get it over with.

If there is ever anything that's annoying it's arguing with fundies on Facebook polls about the separation of church and state.

Face Book is another case of the "Emperors New Clothes ". Everyone says it's great because everyone else says it's great. I found the format to be unwieldy and for some reason I felt exposed.  I deactivated my site.

I daily post antagonistic anti-religious / proscience stuff to my FB wall. Get into some right royal rows over it.  Great fun!

Came to the aid recently of a fellow A|N'er who was suffering a plague of theists, and me he and his mates have become good mates through it.  The theists turned and fled and haven't returned.

I think it's what you make of it.    If you'd like a bit of backup, just ask.

Don't feel bad, I went from about 300 friends to 16 when I stopped tolerating religious crap and became an outspoken atheist. My theist friends and family saved me the time of deleting them by removing me off their facebooks for blasphemy. I finally deleted mine all together as it was worthless, AN is my new social network.
