I think atheists like us need to stop allying evolution with non-belief. We need to stop using it to try and disprove creationism because evolution does not directly refute creation (hence deists: people who think god created the universe and let it run by itself.

It's turning into a pseudo-dogma and is being used against us in teaching creationism in schools.

what do you think?

Hahahahaha.... Oh my gosh. I'm telling my physics professor that one tomorrow. He'll get a kick out of that.

my highschool anatomy teacher's favorite story was that there was once an idiot student who, when shown the skeletons of a man and woman side by side, told the professor that he was wrong. the man was supposed to have one less rib. LOL that kills me.

Johnny : Yeah, we came from the dust of the Earth and women came from one of our ribs. Yet God lived an eternity and he had to take my rib? Pffft.... makes me laugh.

that's why I don't bother with those theists that think they're right. I focus on the ones who think and are willing to accept they're wrong. they fight me tooth and nail, but i pick my battles and i have finished 2 convos so far where I won and they admitted defeat (maybe even became agnostics)

people who don't want proof; all we can hope is that society evolves around them.

Kyle: this is why I love reading the bible! im on my second go! IT IS SO FUCKING FUNNY! it's like reading a princess and the frog story the whole time. lots of fairytales that people think are true.

well... with respect, the deist god is an acceptable theory for how things were created. I can't find the logical inconsistency but that doesn't prove it either.

like some of the things you said, nate, i think the deist god creates more problems than he fixes in understanding how things work and why. the simple answer creates problems for people who look beyond the answers.

lol whenever a theist trys to sidetrack me and say YOU THINK WE CAME FROM MONKEYS?!?!

i say: you think we came from dust. I win. next topic.

well, i know that adriana. we don't use it as dogma, but I see how it comes off as that.

we should focus on putting the burden of belief on them is my only point. proving our own side is rather futile and makes us SEEM like bigots when we're not. you kinda went along with my point there. too many atheists are trying to use evolution to disprove god when it doesn't. Getting into an evolutionary argument is simply letting the theist sidetrack you.

deists: people who think god created the universe and let it run by itself

I think deists are pretty harmless. But I wonder what the god of the deists is like. Does it care? Did it die? If so, how? If not, where is it? What's it doing? I never get any answers. So for all practical purposes, their unknown and unknowable deity is not.
