Evangelicals are Biggest Backers of Torture (Surprised??)

A Pew Survey found that 54% of Americans who attend church at least once a week support the torture of so-called enemy combatants “often” or “sometimes”. That number drops 12% for people who rarely or never attend services. But it was the evangelical Protestants, (you know, the literalists, the creationists, the kings of intolerance) who ran away with it. More

Again I say, how in the hell is it that "godless liberals" have the reputation for being unhumanitarian?

Just repeating what I said here -

Its just a coincidence that the nutjob god-freaks are more pro-: they are a subset of people who can't see past their own noses. Most people who really think about it beyond short-term gain or as simple revenge and really consider what it would be like to be a part of a society that advocates torture tend to not come out in favour of it.

There is absolutely NOTHING new about this. It is definatly NOT suprising.

There were 4 different Inquisitions that lasted for almost 700 years (from about 1100 to 1800). Look at how our christian ancestors treated the slaves, and native americans. Look into the wretched mother teresa's hospitals for the terminally ill. No pain killers there.

Christianity is really a DISCUSTING, PEWTRED religion. I have seen nothing good come of it.

I think this is because 1.) xtians are very gullible, and more inclined to believe those who claim "it's the only way to make us secure", and 2.) since they so firmly believe that their way of life is the only correct way of life, they are more willing to accept whatever happens to others so long as their way of life is protected (or perceived to be protected, even if it truly is not).

I'm not surprised at all. It's often the self righteous that are the least moral and cruelest. It's that false sense of entitlement.
