For those of you heathen sci-fi geeks out there, I've got an old gem for you here. From all the way back during the Tom Baker years of Doctor Who, here is "The Face of Evil". This serial is far from bashful in its criticism of religion. If you've got some spare time and a flair for camp, this is a great one to check out. I particularly love Baker's sly banter with the Voodoo Priest character; you really can't miss it.

There are plenty of other old Doctor Who serials with similar themes (including a few written by Atheist legend Douglas Adams), and I briefly covered some choice episodes of the current reboot series in my previous post on the God of the Gaps. Anyway, enjoy this heathen jewel from across the Atlantic!

Doctor Who: The Face of Evil

EDIT: Apparently the original proposed title of this serial was "The Day God Went Mad". How about that, huh?

Currently, this serial is sadly out of print. It was released on VHS back in 1999, but has never been converted to DVD. The episode is pretty much only available on the web. However, Classic DW serials have been making their way onto shelves lately, so there may still be hope of a future DVD release.

"The very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common. They don't alter their views to fit the facts, they alter the facts to fit their views."

"His first impulse will be to kill me. It'll be more important to him than anything else."

"Does he hate you that much?"

"Yes because I contradict what he thinks is real. I'm a threat to his world."

If it's as epic as Heroes, then I might have to pass...

Well truthfully I'm no expert and I haven't really given it much of a chance. I guess I just really liked the music as a kid, and it had some other quality which I liked as well, but I was too young to remember.

Hey thanks for this. I haven't watched a Dr. Who episode in years, and I haven't liked the new one much. I'll look at this when I have time, and I'll have to look up Douglas Adams too.

I really need to try watching Doctor Who. I've had many people tell me it is excellent.
