For anyone who's interested Charles Seife's book:

Proofiness: The Dark Art of Mathematical Deception.

has a chapter or two about ballots and counting.

Our electoral process needs to be repaired so close elections like Bush vs. Gore isn't just a figurative coin toss.

Brand I suppose. His dad was a moderately successful politician as was his grandfather. The same as there where so many Kennedys  in politics. That explains his involvement. The professionals probably said " He's got good name recognition and a nice haircut. He'll do." As to how he was elected . Well if it wasn't for the Electoral College system of electing Presidents he actually wasn't elected. Al Gore pulled more than 1/2 million more popular votes in that election. While we can't know how Gore would have reacted to 9/11 all evidence is that he was a more thoughtful guy and might have made better decisions that the "Great Decider".

I'm  pretty conservative , but I can't believe this dopey guy was president of the United States of America. I stopped for a moment to watch and it made me squirm. Talk about the lost decade, lost opportunities and horrific  political miscalculations. Geez. Nothing he can say in summary will make any of that any better.  I don't think he was evil as many do I just think if you hand a loaded gun to a monkey nothing good can come of it.
