He does sound very much like a clergyman.  His gestures and evocative expressions, I think come from a mode of appealing to the emotions.  This seems to be done very much as a way of fostering the hosting of a "god virus" in the listeners.  However his gestures and vocal lilt are by no means negative things in themselves.  He might very well have impeccably logical arguments and use that mode of delivery to more effectively communicate them.

I agree, he does sound like a preacher, but that will probably evolve, though I doubt it ever goes away. I think many of us are ultra sensitive to that speaking style - I know I am - but I have to factor in how much I was programmed. He does make some good points. The more I talk to him and listen to him, the more I think he has some great ideas to offer.  He is a thoughtful and reflective person who can put ideas together in new ways.

Jerry makes some excellent points, particularly regarding individuality.  There's no mistaking he's a former preacher, though.  It would be interesting to see how his delivery style evolves as he grows into his atheism.
