Close minded teachers and their indoctrination of kids!

Being a teacher I often feel so frustrated with some of my close minded colleagues. The other day one of our male teachers asked to talk to the grade 8's in the hall. I was not alerted as these talks usually involve warnings of the use of drugs etc. I was quite taken aback when the man started reading out of genesis in the Bible preaching about the creation. He did not stop there .... he then emphasised that evolution was not true and anybody that believes in it stand in danger to be condemned forever. He also told the kids that they and their parents must stand up against the government and must demand that the evolution theory must be excluded from the curriculum. At this point I was fuming ... literally. I complained to the principal, I talked to the colleague. The principal only said that the science teachers must try to rectify this. My biggest concern is that I know of no parent that complained about this .... What do I do now?

I can't help but think if this guy had said that following the rules of grammar will send you to eternal fire in hell, you'd have gotten a more serious reaction from your principal. Your co-worker says something equally stupid and it sounds like you got a bit of a brush off. The truth is the public school is an arm of the US government and the US government cannot promote any religious ideology less it be in violation of the Constitution. Some religions believe the Earth is carried on the back of a giant, invisible turtle. I'll bet your co-worker is not willing for the invisible turtle people to get equal time to his creationism. Keep up the good fight. I hope your principal is dealing with this quietly behind the scenes.

Comment by Katrina Kristiansen on October 9, 2011 at 2:01pm: I am glad you complained.i wanted to complain to the school board when the pledge was being forced upon my daughter at her other school, but felt i would be out numbered and i hate being called unpatriotic, because i am very patriotic, i love my country, but when you force public school kids to say the pledge which was written by a preacher, and adopted into the wood works of the usa, (btw in case you didnt know the forefathers were pagans, umm more so they were free masons, they felt religion was toxic to the country)

so anyone that tells you that teaching religion in public school is right, i would speak out, hold rallies, get people to sign a petition, be more brave than i was

I think I would also spread the word to the science teacher(s) somehow that this is going on.
