Sometimes, I pass church signs that display a truly flawed message based on opinion and misinformation. When this happens, I cannot help wanting to write a letter or in this case, send an email making these people aware of their errors. I figure, these people make the claim of having the ultimate truth, I would think that they would be grateful for a tip that their church sign makes them look like a bunch of idiots. This sign is in no way as bad as the first sign I responded to, but I think it is a serious problem that needs serious attention.

For starters, many churches teach that the US was founded upon Christian principles, and because of this, they believe it should remain that way. Well, there are many problems with this logic, first that it is merely an appeal to authority. I don't believe the Founding Fathers based this country on Christian principles, but if they did, does that automatically mean they were correct in doing so? Not at all. Just because they were the founders, doesn't mean they were right about everything. I would like to ask them if we should still practice slavery, or take back the right for women to vote.

The truth is, the Founders were not perfect. The citizens of the US have made great strides toward making this country better, revealing social injustices and fighting for equality... for liberty...for freedom.

I do believe, based on the evidence, that this country was intended to be secular. Many Christians don't get that this was done in order to protect the freedom of all US citizens from religious tyranny and governmental injustice by keeping religion and government separate.

The thing that really bothers me is that many Christians who believe this country is supposed to be fundamentally Christian have also the intention of denying the freedoms of other citizens of different faiths, or those of no faith at all by forcing their belief system into areas of government. This is what is going on with evolution, abortion and gay marriage. Because so many have the opinion that marriage is defined only as a union between a man and a woman, they want to deny consenting adults the right to a legally recognized union. I know marriage is mostly conducted by religious institutions, but it is also conducted by civil institutions as well. No religious institution should be forced to conduct same-sex marriages if it goes against their beliefs. But there is no excuse for a non-religious power to conduct such marriages. To do so is discrimination.

These people are so blind to their own conceit! They think flavoring this country with Christianity is a good thing because it just happens to be what they already believe. They give no thought about how they would feel, in a country that is supposed to allow its citizens to worship, or not worship as each individual sees fit, if they were the minority and some other religious group was trying to flavor the government differently.

Anyway, I have reproduced the sign on the sign generator. I intend to respond to the church via email. I will post the results later.

I'm sorry if I confused everybody. I guess I wasn't clear about the sign. It is a reproduction of the actual sign for dramatic effect. Check the website in the bottom right corner. I will post the real sign as soon as I get a good shot of it.

The only thing that will help Westboro is a semi-truck load of anti-psychotic medications.

I love, love, LOVE church marquees. Many times they are misspelled or display awful grammar. It's like the religious advertising how stupid they are!
"Jesus can here you're prayers!" - one of my faves.

Don't bother offering any constructive criticism to Westboro. Those people don't give a damn about reality.
