Christmas and other pagan/christian holidays

Being atheist, I still celebrate Christmas, easter, halloween, ect but I don't celebrate the birth or death of jesus, i want to start a new tradition in our family but not sure how to go about doing so. I want to donate money or christmas gifts or even open my house on christmas day thanksgiving and easter to those who don't get enough money to make a nice home made dinner for their family.

does anyone have any ideas how I would be able to do such a thing without having to use a church?

Comment by annet on September 24, 2011 at 11:59am: I like your idea. We're going to have a festivus pole this year. No presents but lots of food. Around here the fire department does a toy drive and there is a secular adopt a family program. A friend used to get the family together and make holiday dinner box lunches and deliver them to random homeless folks.

Comment by Steph S. on September 23, 2011 at 9:54pm: Do you have an Ethical Society near you? Maybe a UU group? Many UU are atheists/humanists. Maybe a Humanist organization? I would look for those organizations near where you live.

Comment by Herbert Philip Peters on September 23, 2011 at 8:59pm: Why not a get together of 'non practicing' (Christians). That may be a good way to start. A long drive away to some quiet place. That you want to do something else is a wonderful idea.
