What year (and what month or day, and perhaps what hour) did pre-modern science become the modern science that xians claim to have founded? And how did that pre-modern science differ from their modern science?
Obedience to authority being important to many xians, what answer does their authority give them?

I agree with you. Further, christianity is a poor environment for science-ready world view, discourage dissent and inquiry and we have ways of correcting wayward thinking.
Science was inspite not because of christianity.
