Book Recommendation: "Heathen's Guide to World Religions"

Got back from my trip, and am almost done with the D'Souza book (I've got a whole bunch of pages scribbled down to come back to, egads, that is painful.) Anyway as a break from that I started "The Heathen's Guide to World Religions" by William Hopper. It's really good, funny and entertaining but at the same time quite informative with lots of history. (I've read about the Jews, Xians, and am now up to the Moslems. After that come the Hindus and Buddhists.)

A couple of interesting things:

Everybody knows about how Horus did everything Jesus did before him, but Isis was the first god that they baptized people in the river for, and Mithras was the first god to say, "Eat my flesh and drink my blood" (in the form of a bull that they sacrificed). The Xians were not very original.

The Romans didn't start feeding the Xians to the lions right away; at first they were quite tolerant and really didn't give a crap about them. But then the Xians kept showing up at the temples of other gods and yelling about how they were all going to hell. The Romans asked them to stop, but they wouldn't, so they became lion chow.

I will get back to the D'Souza book! I'm home now and I'll get started on it...after my nap...I'm glad I'm not being graded on this book report. ;-)

Yea, I just somehow found that and thought it looked interesting, but I hadn't seen it anywhere else. I just looked on Amazon and they've got old editions selling for almost $100.

He has an official website: http://heathensguide.com/

Thanks for the recommendation, I'm surprised I'd never heard of it.

Heathen's Guide sounds like a good book; I'd better check it out.
