I wrote an article describing what I believe are what the majority of atheists think about death and what happens to both our conscience and our bodies after death and how this view of death affects the way we view life. Of course I can't speak for all atheists so I'm curious what you guys think. I especially welcome the spiritual atheists because you guys should have some interesting thoughts. This was my first post in my first blog so any constructive criticism is also welcome!

Energy cannot be created nor destroyed. Once a body decomposes, the energy that is inside the cell's molecules will be released into the soil and around the atmosphere. Our fathers ingested energy from the food they eat and from the air they breathe helping them produce mature sperm cells from the proteins they're recieving to fertilize our mothers' eggs. And so the cycle continues,... we're born, we consume energy, we grow, we reproduce and we die, and we return back to subatomical state in a form of energy.

Human beings have a more evolved and developed cerebral cortex that is why our consciousness and pattern seeking abilities are far more superior to that of dogs and monkeys. That is why right now we humans are concerned about death because we know "the pattern" that inevitably we're heading to our graves. The human cerebral cortex is what drives some people to believe in the afterlife and the extra-dimensional spirit world.
