Arguing with a Christian about Science vs. Religion is pointless. It’s pointless because the argument doesn’t end when one side or the other makes a very good point or presents undisputable truth or fact as when an argument should end. No, the argument will only end when the Christian stops being a stubborn moron. Even then only one of two things will happen, one they actually listen and learn something, though not likely or two, they themselves grow tired of arguing and see that it is pointless.

Last year I had one of these moments with a Christian friend of mine when he asked why do we (Cose2Cose Productions) make our show Bible Answers? For those of you who don't know, we make a weekly anti-christian satire called Bible Answers. Anyway, after he asked that I replied with "The main focus of the show is to point out flaws in the Bible". Then he graced me with this comment, "The Bible doesn't have any flaws!" I knew I was in for a long night after that! Ever have one of these long nights?

The biggest flaw in the Bible is that it is not in the Fiction Section of the library. But that's more the librarian's fault than the author's.

The Christians I've spoken with are, for the most part, programmed that way by their parents and other authority figures. Belief has been jammed into their heads and rammed down their throats since they were little kids with fear being the lube used to help them swallow it. And they, in turn, do the same to their own offspring.

In all seriousness, I have to solidly agree with deletedsoul, you may never know if your arguements are the proverbial straw breaking the camel's back, and facts are never going to be a lost cause as long as someone is willing to point them out.

My gramps had a saying,"Never try to teach a pig to dance, it only frustrates you and annoys the pig!"

I'm sure you're aware of the 455 contradictions in the Skeptics Annotated Bible. Also has 1000's of cruelties and absurdities.

As a former fundamentalist, I can attest that even if the arguments seem to bounce off your Christian friend, you very well may be placing much needed seeds of doubt into his mind. When I was a Christian, I had many such arguments with non-believers, many of which I look back on now with shock and awe at how delusional I was. However, those debates placed the seeds of doubt that eventually blossomed into full-on Atheism. I'm sure the non-believers who were arguing with me at the time thought I was a lost cause, but I am very thankful to them for taking the time to talk to me.

Don't ever stop trying to inject logic into an ignorant world! :)
