The easy way

1. Google for ascii bibles, pick your favorite. 
2. Open in a word processing program like Google Docs (using upload feature), MS Word, or OpenOffice
3. Use the Comments feature to create notes in the margins. If you do the Google Docs version you can even share with your friends and have everyone annotating their comments on your bible!

Fancy way:

If you are at all tech savvy, you could actually upload a bible into your own Wiki or content management system (eg. Drupal), and create annotations there. You'd just have to write a little script to chop up and import as little page-sized chunks. 

Potential helpful tip:

The first couple times i tried to read the torah i also couldn't stick with it, because it was just kinda too random/bizarre/boring. But after i read some modern commentary to put the torah into a social and historical context it became a lot more interesting.

Thanks Loren. Yep, I've used that, but wanted to try it on my own. Sounds nuts, but I'll learn more that way.

The work has already been done ... and it's called the Skeptic's Annotated Bible.  And oy, such a deal!  You get the quran and book of mor(m)on thrown in at no additional charge!
