Tonight, America takes another giant step back, thanks to North Carolina voters. Keep running the country into the ground, religious right--and may you all have a gay son or daughter that will never be afforded the same freedoms your straight kids are. That's fair.

That's really sad.

It's sad that people don't see the irony when they want the government out of their personal affairs, but feel the government should step in to others personal affairs that conflict with their personal world views.  --beautifully put, Starscream!

I voted against, even though I felt RIGHTS shouldn't be up for a vote.

I had a long conversation with someone today who voted for, that I otherwise consider a good friend.  His views were very traditionalist conservative, and rooted in religion, but honestly I think it wouldn't have mattered if he was religious or not, he thinks the whole country is 'morally depraved'.  I was unsuccessful in convincing him that it's not about adam and steve, it's about freedom and that no other person should be able to tell someone what they can and can't do in America just because they wouldn't do it themselves.  If it directly harms another human being then your actions are imposing on the rights of others, and that's where laws come from.

It's sad that people don't see the irony when they want the government out of their personal affairs, but feel the government should step in to others personal affairs that conflict with their personal world views.
