Well.... I understand and agree with your comments and of course evil has been done in the name of good. Good people are those that do no harm. So to do something about gays, immigrants, and or heretics or the "good" people doing these things in the name of good are not. Hitler I am sure thought he was doing good and not evil. There are Universal morals and ethics that most people will agree on and it starts with the golden rule and doing no harm as well as learning to at least respect other peoples opinions and points of view even when we disagree and are totally opposite. Compassion for others and self, empathy for others and self, I don't need a god or higher power to figure those things out. It gets right down to earth and there is enough space on this planet for people to live near to people that agree with their views and not have to go doing something about the others
One of those really problematic quotes since 'good men' get to define themselves. So good people are doing something about immigrants, or gays, or heretecs--for the greater good, of course.
Burke saw it from one side of the mirror and didn't check the other side.
The only thing necessary for the triumph of good is that evil men do nothing.
Actually, the quote is:
The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.-- Edmund Burke
