Why is it that everytime I put on the History Channel it's always a show about aliens? Didn't even know there were so many angles of looking at UFOs. Government conspiracies, crop circes, Area 51, implants, hypnotherpy, USOs (unidentified swimming objects...really), and aliens through history, among others. Whether it's before work, before school, or when I get home it's always aliens. Is this just alien season or what? It's interesting in it's own way, but even if I believed in it all it would be too much. Maybe it's just me and I'm flipping through at the wrong times and it's just coincidence. Sigh. Although I will admit it is always a pleasure when they bring Joe Nickell on. So as interesting as I'm sure the "alien agenda" is, I'm afraid I'm going to have to flip on through... Family Guy it is.

I know I am right with you. I only watch ABC (Australia public channel) or SBS (documentries and titties). Yesterday I taped a show that I thought was about history and it turned out to be a kooky ghost story in documentry formate. THis is popular, no wonder I'm not!!

Very true. I know I watch less and less of that channel these days because of it, which is sad since I do love history and learning about the kind of things History, Discovery, etc usually put out. I love that those channels exist but it seems to be progressing along a similar vein as what happened with MTV, the music channel that mysteriously stopped airing music. Perhaps I could expect this from say, the Sci-Fi channel, but History? Maybe the occassional history of ufo claims, but this dedication is just odd and off-putting.

The problem is the suits wanted more ratings so they told the people who work on the History Channel to put shows like those on. What the suits don't understand is in doing so they loose credibility and loose there core audience. The higher-ups at the big company's who own the History Channel and the Discovery Channel do not understand the audiences of the channels the run.

There are many different History channels, and yes, programming like that vexes me to no end. I hate 'Modern Marvels' and war history unless it's something neat like Spartans or Vikings. If something happened yesterday, or five or ten years ago, it's technically history, but sheesh, I like the real stuff. I also hate how the history programs are all about the cheesy book/movie du jour like 'The Da Vinci Code.'
I love archaeology programs, except for this: I hate when they do bad archaeology on TV. I've seen the TV people excavate fields with construction equipment and open 500 year old tombs with crowbars and dive right in. Eeeeeeek! Right up there with Carter and Carnarvon!!! Next they'll be using explosives to unearth pottery shards.

That bothers me too. It bothers me more that there are so many paranormal/ghost shows on the discovery channel.
