AGW Fact of the Day: "The Debate is Over"
Anthropogenic Global Warming fact of the day:
More than 31,000 scientists have signed a petition agreeing with the following statement:
"We urge the United States government to reject the global warming agreement that was written in Kyoto, Japan in December 1997, and any other similar proposals. The proposed limits on greenhouse gases would harm the environment, hinder the advance of science and technology, and damage the health and welfare of mankind.
There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or any other greenhouse gases is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth's atmosphere and disruption of the Earth's climate. Moreover, there is substantial scientific evidence that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant and animal environments of the Earth."
31,000 scientists, 9,000 with PhDs. That's a big "flat Earth society".

Indeed it is a big flat earth society. The Seitz/Robinson petition you're referring to is bunk. Skeptic Magazine explained why. Short story: The only reason to do a petition instead of a randomized survey is to mislead by leaving out the lopsided percentage of those who don't agree with it. Plus, the petition was forwarded around with very loose controls on who could sign it, so claiming 31,000 scientists is bogus right off the bat. They weren't all scientists, and they mostly weren't working in fields relevant to AGW issues. And most damning, the petition packets included an overview and cover letter written by Robinson, Seitz, et al, from a denier's point of view, which likely influenced the attitude of the recipients in favor of signing, much like the infamous political dirty trick of "push polling".
Just more sleazy, underhanded, anti-scientific crapaganda from the AGW-deniers.
