It has been a very busy week indeed, On Friday the 12th Sean Faircloth, Peter Harrison, Dave Armstrong spoke at a public seminar, which was very enlightening about the problem we have with religion being shoe horned into the public school day. Last week I blogged an article about the seminar on my public blog (http://theocracidal.blogspot.com/2013/04/in-defence-of-our-children.html)
On Wednesday, I went to parliament to see the passing of the Marriage (Definition of Marriage) Amendment Bill. I went on the off chance I might get in to see the bill passed, But it turned out even better than I hope, I meet up with friends, from the last job I had, made some new friends and we partied almost all night. A bit miffed to findout on Thursday afternoon that the Minerals resources bill passed with the prohibition on at sea protests attached. What one hand gives the other takes away.
New friends on the New Zealand Association of Rationalists and humanists pointed out some media coverage of discrimination against atheists in a country that prides itself on it secular tradition. It seems the narrative of secularism in this country (New Zealand) is a thin veil that hides an ugly truth, that religion here is as toxic as it is anywhere else.
Last night, I joined in with the Sceptics in the Pub. Yes, Wellington does have a group, that can be found on meetup.com. On Monday, there will be meeting celebrating James Randi's contribution at the Tararua Tramping Club rooms on Mt Victoria, Wellington.
So yes, A very busy week new friends acquaintances, I haven't feel so connected in a very long time. It feels like I've come home.
