All right – let me see if I can get this straight:

An assistant coach on the Penn State football team allegedly molested a number of children over a period of time.  Result: a previously well-respected football coach – Joe Paterno – and the president of the university both lose their jobs.  The media is all over this story like white on rice and a full-on investigation of the entire incident is in process.

Meantime … the story of child abuse within the catholic church has been ongoing and documented since the 70’s and possibly going on long before that.  Documented incidents of abuse in multiple countries involving hundreds of not thousands of children have been reported.  Further evidence of transfers of offending priests and payoffs to victims is also logged and verified.  The Holy See responds to such reports as being “petty gossip,” harbors at least one serious offender (Bernard Cardinal Law) within Vatican City, where he is very unlikely ever to see the bar of justice, while this same organization takes no obvious steps to deal with the situation, nor does it offer any transparency in what actions it is taking.  What press coverage there has been has dried up and is currently silent on this issue and no real action appears to be forthcoming.

Now someone tell me, please:

What the F*** is WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE???

Well, gee whiz, who'da thunk it.  God Is A PERV!!!

And so maybe we need to send SVU after the old geezer. What a shame that Detective Stabler is no longer available to "tune" him up a touch!

the answer is clear.  God likes sex offenders, and always has.  There!

Loren, I am in agreement. In fact, for my money as an atheist, the great lie is not about whether there is a deity, it is about the connection between religion and morality.

Maybe so, Glen ... but again, look at what's going on in State College, PA vs. what's going on (or should I say NOT going on) at the Vatican and elsewhere.

This isn't just skewed, this is ridiculously skewed, way past the point where I can be silent about it ... and I'm just a bystander and not a directly-involved party!

Of course you are correct. However it is a small portion of the harm done by the church.

Jurisprudence is not blind either. Who is the transgressor? Is it a white collar criminal who has hosed the system for millions or is it a kid who is hungry and robs a bank for two hundred bucks? Is it a secular molester or a holy fucker? At least medieval law was honest in examining who is the fuckor and who the fuckee?

Absolutely it SHOULD be, Clarence ... but who in this government or any other is going to have the cojones to actually go head-to-head with the Vatican and say, "We've had ENOUGH!"

Theocratic tyranny should be dealt with by revocation of tax exempt status and forfeiture of properties!

Maybe so ... but even if the journey is 10,000 miles, the first step HAS to be taken ... or the crap just keeps going on.
