I haven't ever blogged on here, so this is my first attempt at it.
I wrote a few verses about some things that were on my mind, after watching all the things I could find from the Reason Rally, and also after I saw a "cute" religious joke my brother posted on FB, and it made me write this:
They say we hate, but I don’t know.
They call us evil. Where did love your neighbor go?
They think we believe in nothing. I believe in much.
I just don’t believe in things that cannot be proven.
I believe I can figure out what is right and wrong.
I believe I can know things that I shouldn’t do.
I believe I should not do things that hurt others.
I believe I should not kill others.
I believe I should respect others.
I believe I should be respected as well.
So, I don’t believe in an imaginary thing.
I don’t believe those who believe
In a particular imaginary being are
More or less moral than
Those who believe in any other one.
I don’t love when people shout at one another
Or try to do harm to one another
Because they are different .
And I don’t want to turn the other cheek
When someone tells me he has the right
To force his beliefs down my throat, and
I am stepping on his freedom of speech
Or religion because I will not let him.
I am not loving in those ways.
Some of you would call me evil.
If there is a hell, I might be headed there.
I don’t think so.
If the right to think,
And the right to try to understand
How the world works is a sin,
I will be happy to be a sinner.
I want to be compassionate and rational.
I do believe in many things.
I just don’t believe in unproven gods.
And I really don't hate you.
