A lighter moment of "Catholic WTF?"

MN teen denied Confirmation - for supporting marriage equality

Ok, I clearly am not a fan of the RC church.  Or the idea of religion at all.  But if someone, for whatever reason, wants to keep up the observances *as long as they do no harm in the world*, let them.  This guy posted a photo of himself with an altered sign protesting a proposal to deny LGBTQ folks their right to have legally recognized marriage.  And now he's not going to be confirmed, since his local parish threw a hissy fit.

Hopefully, this young man will take this as a lesson to move as far away from organized religion as possible.  But in the meantime, he apparently busted his hump doing service for the church so he could be confirmed.  And now he's being denied this thing which is clearly so important to him.  Because he holds the sensible view that LGBTQ people are people too.

Hopefully, this will leave a bad enough taste in the mouths of other parishoners, and they'll stop handing money and resources over to this organization.

@Kalliope, Ugh, talk about unfortunate design!  Two millenia of amazing art done in the name of the church and this is what we get?  Bah!

@Grinning Cat - if nothing else, maybe that parish will have a few less tithes for itself.  The pocket seems to be the only way you can get through to churches.  As for following the conscience being a crime, I hate to Orwell this, but that reminds me of the warning signs of fascism, specifically the mixture of religion and state.

And apparently this list comes on a handy poster!  http://syracuseculturalworkers.com/poster-early-warning-signs-fascism

I hope this will make many parishioners think twice about continuing to support the institution, when speaking one's conscience becomes a "crime".
