Ramen.
I am just now reading Dan Barker's Godless and he is making it abundantly clear that being an atheist matters.
Take care, and nice to *meet* you.

Thank you. That's the point I was making with the photographs and the song.

And if it wasn't a wake-up call to others, it certainly was to me.

It was the beginning of my realization that being an atheist matters.

Trance,
I am sorry to hear about your son.
I could not agree more that 9/11 made it clear that religion is a danger in many, many ways.

Jack,

Thanks for translating for me! Indeed, you catch my point. I have written on this topic and would be happy to share my essay, but it might be too long for this thread. Can I post it on my page?

we should not infer that some humans are worth more than other humans.

And you somehow assume that commemorating 9/11 is making such an inference?

I'm sorry but one does not follow the other.

And I'm a Canadian not American so while it affected me, it has nothing to do with where my home is.

People choose to commemorate events for a lot of different reasons and 9/11 wasn't significant because of the number of people murdered or where they were murdered.

It was significant because we realized how vulnerable we are to terrorism and it opened our eyes to the brutality of Religious Terrorism whether at home or abroad.

It was our wake-up call that Religion isa danger to the future of the human race.

And for me personally, my son is one of those paying the price.

He's not asking whether or not he should; he's asking why others don't.

They are, at least, equally tragic though for different reasons; why one is commemorated every 365 days or so and the other happens again each of those 365 days almost entirely without notice is what he's disturbed by.

Then I suggest he commemorate it every day. There's nothing stopping him from doing that.

Causing death through lack of action is still wrong. Though not legally murder I would still call it murder: genocide by neglect.
