I don't think many people realize how amazingly important it was that Pete Stark admitted his godlessness. It's a lot like the episode of Ellen when she "came out" on the show. It's completely unprecedented, and it opens the door for other politicians to do the same. There are atheist congressmen in the Senate and the House. There are probably more than most people think. But we all know it's suicide in politics to admit it. This is monumental though. I applaud Pete Stark and his courage. Personally, I'd do the same thing, except that I'd never have the ability to hide it until I was in a position of power to begin with.

Pete Stark, I salute you. And to all other atheists/agnostics/freethinkers, be proud of your lack of superstition!
