@Johannes- all are good, but 'Retard' works so well... retard was first used to deride the mentally handicapped because they were considered "slow" while the actual meaning is to "slow down" and like I said, stem cell research and scientific progress have definitely been held back by those fucking nutcase retards, and their insistence that their religious opinions are facts.

@Roy, My desire is to change the vernacular of the word away from the mentally and physically disabled, and force it onto the 'Retarded' adults who embrace superstition, ignorance, and intellectual stagnation in the face of contrary evidence.

I'm well aware of my own hubris and pride, I'm an asshole and thats never gonna change.

Oh, and by the way, I am crazy, I shower everyday though, my life is awesome, and yes I do consider myself a lowlife, fun people low-lifers.

I am a product of generations of catholics in my family. Generations of brainwashing. So was I, schooled from catholic schools from kinder to university. Yet no amount of brainwashing can shackle my mind and see the magnificent grandeur of this world for what it is. I also see the sheer stupidity of one proud atheist thumping his chest as if he is uniquely special and intelligent at 9.

We must remember that religious people are usually a product of how they were raised. There is an element of brainwashing that they have been exposed to. Is that their fault? Isn't that putting blame on the victim? Most people would not blame a child in the inner city school system who fell through the cracks for being genetically less intelligent (I'll refrain from reusing your noun) but would see them as a victim of that system. Most intelligent people understand that circumstances put many where they are. Having said that, some young people from bad situations, even though those cracks existed for them too, managed to avoid the pitfalls, educate themselves and get out of that situation. As do many religious people - me being one.

As intelligent Atheists (some who were religiously brainwashed, but managed to crawl out of ignorance - and some who never had to) we need to be understanding of the journey that each person is on and accept where they are at this moment in time. It is through that understanding that we will have the ability to gradually lift the window shades for them as well, and guide them out of the darkness.
