Random House publishers become Jihadi lap-dogs.

All right.

Another company has decided to join the ranks of the jihadis.

Random House publishers have cancelled publication of Sherry Jones' novel "The Jewel of Medina", because the efforts of Muslim terrorists to force their censorship upon companies in "free" societies is succeeding.

The bottom line is that this novel is being cancelled, despite being scheduled for release, out of fear that "Muslims will be offended." "Being offended" is something that happens in free societies - and if we're not willing to stand up for the right for people to be offended, then we won't be living in a free society.

Yes, Random house has a sucky press release about this at the top of their web site. If you find such disclaimers to be spineless, and are disgusted by people who are so willing to throw away the dearly-bought freedoms that liberal and democratic societies (still?) possess, feel free to give them an ear full, at:

http://www.randomhouse.com/rhpg/about/contact.html

It's not just the quality of the criticism that is important, it is also the quantity. I see 3000 members here, so . . .

Cheers!

I posted my "letter" on Drew's other post. It is probably more appropriate here.

I am writing in regard to the "Jewel of Medina" - a book that you have decided to cancel for fear of offending Muslims.

Carlos Mencia said it best: (and probably as politely and politically correct as is applicable)
"The Constitution of the United States of America does not protect your feelings. If your pussy hurts, get some Vagisil."

To cancel the publication of a book because you may offend someone who believes in sky fairies is a gross avoidance of the rights and foundations of the very country that benefits you so much.

To say "I will never buy a Random House book" because of this may not be all that inaccurate. If you fail to publish books of interest to me, I will assuredly be passing by your list of books (and you're headed in the right direction if not publishing a book because it may "offend" someone is your philosophy).

Well, that shouldn't say "my resume". It should say "Muslims, Publishers and Free Speech". Hope you enjoy hearing it as much as we had doing it. It was a pretty spirited discussion. We haven't talked all that much about Islam on the podcast and maybe we'll need to do it more.

I think Exterminator already left this link on Jim's discussion of this, but for anyone else - my resume

Also, we now have Another Goddamned Podcast Group here on the Nexus and you are all invited to come and discuss this, or any other, podcast. Evo

This is one more reason we need to have our own AtheistNexus publishing house... It can be run as not-for-profit-business that can earn "donation money" for the site and for operation costs, pay royalties to individual authors and guarantee that our voice is always heard.
