Just before the last Presidential election cycle I was pretty well convinced that the Bush Administration would create a "burning of the Reichstag" event in order to declare a state of emergency. This would activate provisions buried in the bowels of the Patriot Act and enable the carting away of anyone deemed an "enemy combatant" thus setting the stage for The Bush regime to remain in power essentially forever, like our never ending War on Terror. That's pretty much what Hitler did in the 30's to ascend to power.
Apparently, I didn't give the Bush regime enough credit as the cunning cabal of fascist loving industrialists and theocrats that they are, because they used the "meltdown" instead of terror event to set the process of the coup into motion.
Now they have created a monetary crisis that has and will continue to throw at least 35% of all Americans seeking to work into unemployment and financial ruin.
That was the the situation in Germany after WWI and of course it was all part of the world wide Depression.
Then it was bitter, unemployed, and disenfranchised veterans of the trenches who joined far right groups like the Friekorps setting the stage for Hitler and his Nazi Brown Shirts. Today it is Tea Baggers and their allies in fringe Christian identity groups, like the John Birch Society, and other "patriotic" fronts. These so called fringe groups will coalesce into a "party" that clearly seeks to abet a coup or at least fix/disrupt elections in the next two cycles to bring about their dream of feudal state of America.
Now, it is certainly fair of you my fellow "non-theists" to wonder why I'm using this forum instead of something more political to express these views? Largely it is because most of the discussion on this site seems to revolve around nitpicking the fairy tales of Jesus, Christianity as a belief system, and the science vs. superstition debates about all of it.
Seriously, do we really need to be engaged in contemplation of the simple and indisputable fact that religion is superstitious nonsense? Religion is a tool to control a society in accepting any dogma the powerful put forth as morality and even worse as your reality, past present and future.
There is a reason that theocracy and fascism are handmaidens Theocracy provides the far right that additional layer of control to engage in witch hunts and/or to sedate the misery of the very people who swallow their cynical lies.
We are standing on the brink of a new age it will either be a dark or enlightened.
You either wake up and fight for the right to think freely or be accepting of a world created for you by greedy rich corporatist sociopaths. Yes, there is an Orwellian dystopia, Virginia
I just hope you who are true Atheists can get past dumb shit like "was Jesus real?"
If not, then my next post will examine whether the Easter Bunny is fact or fiction
