This is a follow-up to my previous post on church marquee epigrams. Richard Dawkins recently initiated an anti-religious banner on a London bus, but the material was pabulum. Something like, “There might not be a God so enjoy life.”

Utterly milquetoast. Read some of the epigrams on the list that the churches post. They’re downright condescending and arrogant.

Let’s fight back with some obnoxious stuff of our own. Turn a few heads. Make ‘em think a little bit.

Here’s a few. I welcome suggestions and maybe we’ll email them to Dawkins to put a little spice in the punch. He claims to be a militant atheist.

Ever think of how much time you wasted on your knees mouthing futile prayers.

God is a Peeping Tom.

Do you really believe Eve was created from Adam’s rib? C’mon.

How come there’s no priests listed on the National Sex Offender List?

When He resurrected, how come Christ only appeared to his friends?

Get the idea? I can see the buses rolling down Main Street. Any suggestions would be welcome and appreciated.

I see. I’m so tired of the mumbo-jumbo boogety-boo I didn’t give it much thought. It sure looked like a real church. I’m constantly riding by churches with similar words of wisdom.

Sorry about the misunderstanding. Sounds like a neat website.

I wrote on one of my other posts that the national motto on currency should be, IN REASON WE TRUST, so I think we're on the same page.

As to what is the "Un-Church of Rationality" ... I called it an "Un-Church" because no church I know of deals in rationality ... so I figured, what the heck!

Richard, that sign was manufactured BY ME, courtesy of churchsigngenerator.com. The phrase: "Faith Is No Reason" was the winning entry in the Center for Inquiry's Blaphemy Contest, and I am in total agreement with its statement.

Faith and reason have NO intersection set, not to me, anyway. If one reasons, faith is a non-entity. If one depends on faith, reason will struggle at best for a place at the table. Also consider that you can turn the phrase around:

Reason Is NO Faith

Personally, I don't have to believe in the disciplines based on reason. I can rely on them because of the rigor with which they have been demonstrated and tested and verified. Faith, by its very nature, has no such support ... and no leg to stand on.

Shit! How am I going to put all of this on my little van?

Loren, this is exactly what pisses me off. The sign is a rejection of rationality. Reminds me of a great line from Apocalypse Now: "Hell is where there is no reason."

What the heck is an un-church? I take it, everything not in the realm of rationality. It's like some sort of cruel ironc fantasy.

I really can't see this one on the side on a bus, Nate. But you might try one of those nunneries. A lot of the girls are married to Christ.

Ok, not exactly the perfect epigram but I'd like to pass along my personal favorite lately: http://reneehendricks.com/blog/2010/01/09/what-was-the-question - courtesy of my guy, fellow atheist and occasional deep thinker.

Wow, these are great. I especially like this one. My priest molested your honor student.

I just took a part-time job working for the County. I wonder how long I’d last with some of these as bumper stickers. You know, I'll hang 'em on my cubicle walls. They'd treat me like I'm Charles Manson.

Have you threatened your child with eternal damnation today?

Thanks, Jo. Well done.
