Atheist Nexus

The World’s Largest Coalition of Nontheists and Nontheist Communities!

This is not going to be like my usual entries. I like to update this blog regularly- at least weekly- and I usually do it on Sundays. Today, unfortunately, I don't think I will be able to. My cat, Mango, is missing. I am very worried and a bit too preoccupied to focus on anything else. As we atheists say, please keep Mango and me in your thoughts. Thank you.

Hey! Congrats on Mango being back!

Hiding in the house the whole time? How very ... feline.

My little girl has a microchip but had recently lost her breakaway collar. I literally came home on my lunch break to put her new collar and tag on her and that's the day she went missing. Another reason to hope she's just living with a new family - cat without a collar. And while microchips help, it depends on them getting scanned.

Again, very glad to hear yours had a happy ending. Mine was happy in that I got two new rescue kitties from the pound. Happy, healthy, playful, can't believe they were a day away from execution.

To Jo: Actually, Mango already has tags, bells, and a microchip. He had never left the house, though. He must have found his way into the walls in the basement and wasn't worried enough to come out or make noise. Since he's not really a hider and we don't let any of our cats outside, we were worried that he had gotten hurt in his travels. My best guess is that Mango felt sick for a bit and went off to heal on his own, got a bit lost in the walls, and when he'd had his share of his kitty adventure, he found his way out. The only thing we can do to make sure it doesn't happen again is board off the unfinished area of the basement, which we have been meaning to do for years and have finally done. And yes, he is being spoiled rotten, but that's nothing new :)

I'm sorry to hear about your little girl. I'll bet she is currently living it up eating salmon and tuna somewhere, enjoying the next phase of her kitty life but still missing you.

To Loren: Thanks! I'm sorry you can't be around your Munchkin. Orange tabbies are so cute and just seem so carefree, don't they?

I also trust he's getting majorly spoiled to pieces; not knowing why but not really caring either?

;-)

That is awesome Christy! One of mine went AWOL for a week last Summer. Just when I'd given her up for gone she came up to the door, and I swear a little heavier. Theory: As an avid jumper-into-of-open-vehicle-windows, and skittish of other people, I figure she inadvertently hitched a ride on someone's houseboat or something (I live near Lake Powell dry storage and the main marina).

Unfortunately same cat went missing again this Summer and never returned. I'm hoping she hitched a ride in someone's car this time and adopted them when they got home to Vegas or Kansas City or wherever. Yeah, it's wishful thinking but not unreasonable given her habits.

Very glad Mango came back! I trust he has tags and a microchip for next time?

Handsome fella ... reminds me more than a little of my buddy, Munchkin ... who is lost to me in that he's in North Carolina and I'm up here in Cleveland [sigh]. Glad he's back with you, though!

Thanks for the well wishes, everyone. Guess what? Mango came back! After four days of me worrying my ass off, he strolled into the kitchen like he had been gone for five minutes.

I can relate, this is my buddy Digger, who was originally named tigger by my daughter, but she's married now and has a dog, so tigger stayed with me, but since I'm a fifty-four year old man, "tigger" needed a more adult translation, hence "Digger." My hopes are that you and Mango are soon reunited.

Thank you, Jo and Stevie. I appreciate it :)

Agreed, well wishes to both of you.
