Ok. I have this major back problem...a herniated disc. I have had it about 3 years, but only recently found out that's what it is. Well, during the past few years of going through agonizing episodes of back pain, the muscles in my lower back have gotten so tight from guarding and trying to support my spine, they will not loosen up for even such therapies like decompression. I have been on various drugs, spent 4 weeks in physical therapy, etc....no relief. I have very limited mobility in my back. Last week I tried a chipropractor...not bad, but again, my low back was too tight to do much good. So, I went to a masseuse. She was great...found and relieved all sorts of knots, and even my low back felt looser. She explained a process called cupping and felt it would really help even more, so I agreed to set up another appointment (for today). Well, then I found out what a nut she is. She turned on the religious mumbo jumbo! She told me how if all else failed, there was always prayer and she went to weekly prayer groups where they had helped "heal" a boy who had some kind of huge cyst above his eye and it went down every week till it was gone. What a miracle! The whole time she's spouting this crap, I'm laying face down on the table, no clothes, wishing I could hop up and run away. But, this happens to be in my gym where I go nearly everyday, so I just laid there and tried to pretend to be interested because to be honest, I was a little scared of her hands...they're very strong and she knows where certain nerves are that will leave you crying in pain. So, now I'm faced with this decision. She's a very good masseuse and I would love to see if she can loosen up my back. On the other hand, I'm really uncomfortable listening to her tirades.
Decisions, decisions....

By the way, this is a common trait of 99% of the population here....to just start spouting sayings like that without even knowing if you're xian, jewish or what? Pretty rude IMO, but they seem to think it's ok.

Great idea! I'll try that for the next one. She left my gym and I haven't been to one since, though I really need to.

If she starts up on the jesus chatter again, you could bring your ipod/mp3 player in with you and tell her it relaxes you to listen to your music during the massage. Stick those earphones in and enjoy! You don't even really have to turn it on if you don't want to, but it'll probably shut her up!

Sorry bout the back, I have to deal with a herniated disc at the base of my neck, and muscles at the botom that are worthless. Motrin and valium! So far it works for me, I worry about when it stops working.

Re: 16 May

Sorry about your back pain. I hope whatever you do works out well. Some I've known have been able to muddle along pretty well with massage, limited and careful stretching and strength training, and ibuprofen every now and then. On the other hand, a friend of mine at work finally had back surgery here locally, with excellent results. Same with my baby sister down in Houston.

I think that your previous NON-response regarding prayer probably was enough to suggest to your masseuse to leave that sort of thing off the table with you (pun intended).

Best of luck with that issue.

well, I decided to take a chance and went. I guess she got all her preaching out of her system because she didn't mention a word about it.

Pope's 'exorcism' caught on film video

Posted by Debra Stevenson on May 21, 2013 at 2:37pm 0 Comments

There is a video of the Pope's 'exorcism' caught on film.  The man isn't demon possessed, there are likely no 'real' demons.  He's just delusional and doesn't want to accept personal responsiblity for his own behavior for his own dysfunctional life.

Do you support 'traditional' marriage, vot now ad

There is an ad that reads ' Do you support 'traditional' marriage? Vote Now"!  .

No, I don't support 'traditional' marriage because there is no such thing. I support heterosexual and same-sex couples marry each other legally , yes.  'Traditional' marriage promoters largely do not believe that heterosexual women are co-equal to their husbands.  Their only purpose in 'traditional' marriage is to sexually satisfy their husbands if they can and raise children and do all…

i've got no problem with everyone saying "merry christmas" on christmas day.  however, they've turned it into an entire holiday season where it lasts a month or more.  in those situations it should be perfectly acceptable to say "happy holidays" or call it a…

My first funeral as an atheist

Posted by Two Cult Survivor on May 21, 2013 at 11:30am 0 Comments

I posted the bulk of this on another thread, but wanted to add some context separately.

I finally confronted my faith and embraced the fact of my atheism late last August, 2012. Days after I revealed my "epiphany" to a few friends who knew me from another message board, my sister died from Lou Gehrig's Disease (which pissed her off because she hated catching a disease from someone she never f---ed).

THAT was my sister, understand? She was a beautiful, life-loving, potty-mouthed…
