I was at an open house event recently for a christian charity organization. They had slideshows about the work they do around the world. In a way I was impressed by all the things they have been able to do helping people from third world countries, but it sickened me how much of what they do is actually just simply scaring people into believing in god. They also sponsor many programs that will only aid christian communities while excluding anyone else. It made me wonder how much of their "progress" is actually real, and how many people fake it in order to receive financial aid. This organization also puts up a lot of billboards. Most saying entirely meaningless things such as "heaven or hell" or "you will meat jesus when you die", etc. They even directly said that evidence of god does not exist. This blind faith backed up by fear of hell is all that seems to drive religion.
The images shown in their presentation were no better. there were a lot of kids, of all ages, there. Yet they showed gruesome images that you wouldn't see in any PG-rated film. They even had a children's class where kids were told about a man who died in his sleep. This type of thing seems to be completely normal in a religious setting, but anywhere else it would be considered uncalled for.
Fear alone seems to drive religion, but they still claim that religion "sets them free."
