Hello, everyone. I'm new here and don't know if I'm doing this correctly.. If I'm not, please let me know.
I'm from the lower part of Alabama. Growing up here is rough for someone who has "no faith". I came out as an atheist in Middle School and lost many friends because of it. People around here don't like my way of thinking and I grew up hating religious people because of the way they treated me. Now that I'm older, I have met people who accept me the way I am but I don't know many people who think the way I do. I joined this site to be around people who understand me better. I do apologize if this blog post is different then what it should be. Like I said, I am new. I just want to feel accepted and to let others know that there are free-thinkers even here in the midst of religion.

Welcome, Tianna, and thank you for verifying my truth that there can be Southerners who are free thinkers and non-theists.  I am a 10th generation southerner dating back to the earliest colonial days in Virginia.  As you know, Thomas Jefferson was one of our founding fathers responsible for the first amendment speaking to the separation of church and state.

I used to live in Mobile, and I admire your courage for coming out! I know it couldn't have been easy, given the number of people I knew from there that had 'blind faith.'

Add my welcome to this site, Tianna. I'm from another "Bible belt" community in Indiana, but most people here are fairly tolerant. My large secular "I believe in science and reason" poster that is displayed in my front window has never resulted in comments (pos. or neg.) or eggs!

Welcome! :) Always nice to see there are a few of us in this region! Newbie and bible belter here too, and feeling like an alien amidst all the Church-goers. I've lived in Germany and NYC before, and I miss having like-minded or, at the very least, open-minded people around! This place sure isn't known for its tolerance...

Loren's right Tianna. You have NO apologies to give - if anything, it's those who rejected you who should be apologizing!

Welcome. I'm from Missouri, so you might say I'm from the Bible belt also. You will find good people, forums, and topics here.

Hi Tianna:

I live in the bible belt also. East TN, which I personally consider both Christian and Republican central. Everyone I know here is a Christian. The only atheist friends I have are right here on Atheist Nexus. So welcome aboard.

Hi Tianna. Glad to see you here. And, as importantly, glad to see like minded rationalists and free thinkers coming out in the heart of the Bible Belt. My hat's off to you.
