The paralyzed imagination of the theist

Theists have a paralyzed imagination: imaginary things have been imagined for them, and their own imaginations can imagine nothing more or less, but only what has already been prepared for them - ready-made thinking devoid of authenticity, only copied and memorized without a single original thought necessary to fit the prefabricated mold of what is supposed to pass for a mind.

Steph, one exception does not invalidate a generalization. And while I jest re sci-fi it is in fact something I have observed and assumed was a result of what Jedi refers to.

As for yourself and your interest in sci-fi you have a superior mind so it is not at all surprising to me. In fact it would be a surprise if future apostates were not more likely to be drawn to science fiction.

I don't know. Like Steph, I also liked SF. And music, not just pop/rock, but I listened to classical, jazz, big-bands (thanks dad), and blues, like Pinetop, Howlin' Wolf, etc. Also read poetry and classics, like Shakespeare (really had to read that carefully and closely, and then had difficulty, but I persevered), Plato, etc., all while still active in church. But I must confess, with a couple exceptions, no one else among my peers did. They just seemed superficial. Most acquantiences of mine still do. They can tell me about Paris Hilton, but not about Schrodinger's cat. Exasperating.

Your description fits the extremists, but most religionists occupy the muddy middle-ground, usually choosing the happy bits and ignoring the mythology.

Well when I was religious I liked Sci-fi and I still love Sci-fi. So that is not an accurate generalization.

So that is why religious girls dont like sci-fi!
